Funded Workplace Project

Supporting Men Earlier in Male-Dominated Workplaces

A 9-month project working with employers to strengthen how leaders recognise and respond when people may be struggling with their mental health or wellbeing.

Participant Information

What is the project?

Kalobrate is working with six organisations in York and North Yorkshire to test a structured approach to improving how workplaces respond to men's mental health.

The project combines employee insight, leadership development and evaluation.

Participating organisations will complete baseline research, take part in a six-session leadership programme and repeat key measures at the end of the project to understand what has changed.

The aim is to help workplaces recognise concerns earlier, respond more confidently and make it easier for people to access appropriate support.

Who is involved?

The project is being delivered within SMEs and workplaces with predominantly male workforces.

01

Employees

Employees within participating areas of the business will be invited to share their experiences through confidential surveys and selected focus groups.

02

Leaders

A group of up to 15 leaders from each organisation will take part in a structured development programme focused on recognising concerns, approaching conversations, responding appropriately and connecting people with further support.

Why has this work been funded?

Men can be less likely to seek support early when they are struggling with anxiety, low mood, loneliness or other pressures.

Workplaces can therefore play an important role in recognising concerns earlier and helping people access support before problems become more serious.

This project is testing whether strengthening leadership capability can improve employees' experience of workplace support and contribute to better mental wellbeing.

What should I expect?

01

A confidential baseline survey

Participants will be asked about wellbeing, experiences of support at work and help-seeking.

02

Employee listening

Some employees may be invited to a confidential focus group to help us understand the workplace context.

03

Leadership development

Selected leaders will complete six structured sessions over approximately six months.

04

Follow-up evaluation

Employees and leaders will repeat relevant measures after the programme so we can understand what has changed.

Taking part in employee surveys and focus groups is voluntary. Individual survey responses will not be shared with employers.
